GSK GlaxoSmithKline Swine Flu (NYSE: GSK; LSE: GSK.L)

With advanced orders from the UK government for over 60 million doses of its flu vaccine, GlaxoSmithKline UK is preparing to sell £3bn worth of swine flu drugs this year.

RelenzaGlaxo is Britain’s biggest pharmaceutical supplier and has deals with world governments for its antiviral treatment Relenza, which can relieve swine flu symptoms.

Worldwide sales from the two drugs are expected to reach £3bn by January 2010 and GSK is also donating 50 million doses to the WHO to distribute to poorer nations.

The world’s second-largest drug company has secured orders from 16 countries for 195 million doses of the vaccine it is developing against the H1N1 virus – influenza virus - and has other products for prevention and to treat swine flu symptoms currently in the final trial stages.

Since GSK GlaxoSmithKline controls the largest production and distribution network, top biotech companies normally join forces with Glaxo to exceed their production and distribution capabilities.
