The UK Department has reported significant drops in the level of swine flu cases in the UK. But with winter coming for the Northern Hemisphere, this may bring a second wave of both the seasonal and H1N1 swine flu. The UK Department of Health has reported its current findings as well as planning for further influenza scenarios.

UK Department of Health have listed people over 65 years of age, children under the age of five, individuals between 6 months and 65 years old with compromised immune systems and pregnant women are to be given the first doses of the swine flu vaccine when produced in late September.

Top Biotech companies Crucell and Baxter are currently producing some of the first vaccines which target these at risk groups, Crucell´s product Inflexal is licensed for all age groups and has had proven experience with 40 million doses, whilst Baxter’s Celvepan has recently started production for the H1N1 virus and provides treatment for elderly individuals.
